May 1, 1970
Today was Friday and we had a math test - only one more chapter left - yeah!
We didn't have to go to chapel, I went home and ate and then we left for the camporee. We sat in the back seat and then we followed Dr. S. We stopped and got a drink too. We got there at 6:30 or so. It took us 4 1/2 hours. We left a little after 12:00. I wanted to change my clothes, but Mr. A wasn't back yet, so we pitched our tent anyway. We went to campfire, but it was boring. It sure is hot up here. I think I could roast. We're at Lolly Pop Ranch by Porterville.
May 2
Today was church and Michele and I had K.P. (kitchen police). We went to church and boiled. Me and Mike (a punk from Los Gatos) were throwing things with David V. We had church at the lake. Blah. I read a book.
The gang (Michele, Ranele, and me) had to get water at a creek.
Then we got Donna and went spying and we met these cool guys named Paul and Randy (brothers). Then we went wading in the creek.
Campfire and then bed. I saw Dennis (see April 25). I talked to him. He's cool. He has firecrackers.
May 3
Today was Sunday, so we had all the events. We won first place in everything except for 1 second place. We talked to Randy for an hour. He's cool, but not cute. He's from West Valley. He is a 9th grader.
The gang went off boundaries and these boys came along, so we jumped in these bushes and they were scared so they said we were off boundaries to scare us, and they were off boundaries themselves!. They were scared too.
Dennis gave me a firecracker. I like him pretty much. Tommy from West Valley likes Michele. He's really a creep and we were making him so jealous. There was this guy, he looked like the guy on "Summer Magic". Linda from Kings Canyon (same as Dennis) went wading with us. We left at 2:45 and this guy kept waving at us, so we waved back. We got home at 7:30. We had a blast!
May 4
School - yuck! I wish I were back at camp - even if it was hot!
In Living we practiced for investiture tomorrow. Boy do I have a sunburn, but it's starting to tan.
Michele came over and trimmed my hair (finally). I went and visited grandma because she was so worried.
May 5
Today was Tuesday and in recess I played volley ball with the seventh graders, but I gave up. I can't stand Otis - I wish he would flake off.
Michele came over and we were goofing off over here at my house.
Today was investiture and I got my Explorer's pin - it's black. We gave our first aid act with Jackie falling off the chair while Michele and I got the stretcher. One lady thought she was dead and was going to help us!
May 6
Today was Wednesday and all Michele can do is draw castles. But they're good.
In choir we sang a real cute song of when a little boy said his prayer.
In Home Ec we had to talk in the tape recorder to see how we can improve our voices. My voice is awful. Yuck.
I took a bath this afternoon.
May 7
Today was Thursday and I had to have song service for Kathy.
I'm going to try to get Dennis's address.
We had to go to choir. Yuck.
We played volley ball in P.E. and after that Michele came to my house and we read books.
I went grocery shopping tonight and got all kinds of things and then I went to recreation and played games with Michele. Well I'd better go now.
May 8
Today was Friday - finally.
In chapel we saw a movie on drivers safety. It was sorta blah.
Cindy and Cindy went out of the school grounds without permission and they got into trouble and they act like they didn't do anything wrong.
We had a test in history.
I baked a cake again today.
May 9
Today was church and I had to go to Watsonville because the choir had to sing there. They made me have opening prayer. Yuck.
We went to visit grandma this afternoon. Then I read the "Guide" and "The Road to Bithynia"
They showed a movie tonight to pay for the choir robes "The Legend of Lobo". I have read the book. It was really good.
May 10
Today was Mother's Day and me and mom got grandma a card and some sachet for her room. Then I gave mom a bath robe after dinner. All afternoon I put away stamps. Then at six o'clock, my brother caught a bird with a broken wing. We gave it to a boy who has a whole lot of birds.
At 7:00 we went to Sue's where I met Mike, their paperboy. Sue always talks about him. He's OK. We watched the "Scarecrow" it's REAL good.
May 11
Today was Monday again, yuck! I could probably count this as the most boring day in History.
At Pathfinders we had to sell candy again. We sold Mr. H 4 bars (we made him take some). Most of the kids sold all their candy. We didn't. We got half a candy bar, a kite from Uncle Winnie, and 10 packs of gum for selling the candy. I'm chewing a pack of gum right now!

Today was Wednesday. Mrs. H is having her baby (finally), so Mr. H was gone all day - we had Mr H (the principal) (yuck) bore.
In Home Ec, we had to record our voice again. We have to make a book on hair styles now (ugh).
The police came and gave a demonstration today on safety. I watched a little of it. It was dumb.
I made a bulletin board in my room today. It's cute.
May 14
Today was Thursday and Mrs H. had her baby at 7:47 last night. It weighed 8 lbs 8 oz. It was a girl. Her name is Staci Lynn.
We had a test in First Aid today. I think I'll pass, but you never know.
Me and Cheryle rode the bus all around the route. My first time with Mr. H, then we made shortcake etc. and went to recreation (it was sorta blah).
Today was Debra's birthday.
May 15
Today was Friday and Mr H went to pick up his wife at the hospital.
It was so HOT today - I couldn't even stand it - neither could anybody else.
Debra gave me a piece of her birthday cake.
Ron was sick today - what peace there was.
It was so hot and I had to bake a cake - brother I was hot! I even took a cold bath - it felt sooooo gooooodddd!
Well I guess I had better go now.

Today was Sabbath and the Pathfinders went up to the Pinnacles for church.
After lunch we went to the caves and cooled off. We had a blast exploring it because we went in all the secret passageways.
I went home with D's because I'm going to Debra's house. We went to Pinto Lake and this guy who picked berries last year followed us -he's yucky. We went wading and played on the swings.
We watched a movie called "The Stooge" It was funny. I went to bed at 11:30
May 17
At 3:00 this morning, this guy called Diane (Debra's older sister) and was asking her all these personal questions like "do you wear short dresses and are you sexy, etc." Boy were we scared.
At 12:30 we went back to Pinto Lake and played baseball. Then we went swimming up to our necks. I saw Matthew - a guy who picked berries last year. I talked to him for awhile. He's kinda cute.
At 8:00 a neighbor was having a baby and she called the ambulance. She had it 15 minutes after she got to the hospital. It was a girl. She left her kids and they yelled for half an hour. Finally the lady's sister came.

Today was Monday again (yuck)
The rocks are out of the tumbler we bought in November (second batch). They turned out better than the last batch.
I hate school (goodie). Only 3 weeks left. I hope I make it. I wish I could get sick for one week. That would be boss.
Tonight was Pathfinders. Next week is the last week and we are having a hobo party.

Today was Tuesday and Mr. H finally gave us our cigars (bubblegum).
We chose somebody to be chair. for planning class night. Chairman Cindy Z. I'm glad because Jan can help her.
I made my hairdo book for Home Ec today - it's pretty good. (brag brag).
The piano recital is Sunday at 7:30 and I don't know my songs! I'm sorta worried.
Today we went grocery shopping and I got a BIG beach towel with Raggedy Ann on it. I also got a graduation present for Michele and Debra.

Today was Wednesday aand last week we bough Elder B's deaf and dumb mute son a small rock tumber and he, Elder B, on a telephone call - thanked us. His son goes to a deaf high school in San Jose.
In Home Ec Michele fixed my hair. It was OK. Kathy's hair was really cute - in long curls (like I want mine for the graduation.)
May 21
Today was Thursday and Mr H brought his old school pictures to school. He looked weird.
We had to take an English test today. It was real easy though.
I hate Lynn, Kim, and that's all because in PE, I pitched and everybody yells at you if you miss the ball and they don't do so hot themselves!
I went to recreation tonight and everybody was yelling as usual - so I went for the ball and I tripped all over Billy - how embarassing, because I can't stand him. (ha! ha!)
May 22
Today was Friday, goodie - only two more weeks of school left. I hope I make it.
In chapel we played volley ball and the boys played baseball and we couldn't play as usual.
I had to practice for the recital today. Yuck, I can't play at all.
I can't think of anything else to say - on the bottom of the page a drawing of a big square box - with a note beside it that says "in case I think of something"
May 23
Today was church and Michele came over to our house for dinner afterwards. We looked at some of my brother's magazines and we got tired of that so we did the crayon art - we got tired of that so we went to the gym and played on the ropes - we got tired of that so we played the piano - we got tired of that so I played and she sang - we got tired of that so we snooped in the Home Ec room - we got tired of that so we wrote a letter to a guy in Germany and mailed it, then we snooped in the Dorcas and tried the keys and found one that fit, but parents came, so we had to leave (they didn't find out). Then we went for a walk and watched a movie at school "Pedro and the Dancing Chiahuaha" It was good.
May 24
Today was Sunday and I just goofed off all morning. In the afternoon, we went to the Antique fly-in at Watsonville and this little airplane was really good (acrobatics). Before he went up, I was hoping I could go with him, but I'm glad I didn't.
Note: a few years later this same plane and the driver were killed during a practice exercise.
Ewww, I saw Jon, the guy in the berry field who told me I had a good figure. He's really sick.
Tonight was the piano recital. Everyone was soooo good. I was REALLY scared. But I didn't make any mistakes. EVERYBODY complimented me and I wasn't good at all. Even Mrs P (my piano teacher) and Mrs V (especially) and Mrs H (the principals wife) complimented me (I'll get conceited).
May 25
Today was Monday and the 9th and 10th graders went on a field trip so we didn't have them, but we had two History classes (yuck). We played baseball for 1 1/2 hours and it was really OK. Then at PE time we played the seventh graders.
Tonight was the last Pathfinder meeing till next school year. We had a hobo party down at the beach. I wore my dad's clod hoppers, two different pairs of socks, my dad's big pants rolled up and a huge hankie. When we go there we went on the warpf and went scrounging in the trash cans. Then when we ate, our cups were old tin cans. We found some whiskey and talked about it for an hour with Steve and Stephen (Donna was sure jealous). We were all acting drunk, etc.
May 26
Today was Tuesday and I have to have piano. I got two new songs and one is one Greg is having as well.
At 1:00 the Mountain View band played. It was really good. Before that, I saw this guy staring at me and I thought I knew him - and then I said "It's Randy!" Wow! I didn't expect to see him. I talked to him too.
I got kicked out of Living for expressing my views on graduation and Randy came and talked to me. (whoopie). I could say more, but I don't have room.

Today was the school picnic. We had it at De Laveaga Park this year. Harvey West park is better.
In the morning we went for a hike, but Michele, Debra and I ditched them and went back and goofed off. Then we ate and took a whole bunch of potato chips and cookies. We went for another hike and found a cave and ate the food. Then we went on up to the look-out. It was really neat.
We went to W High School and got workers permits and then we went to Gurney's Berries to get our summer jobs.
I went to recreation and goofed off. It was ok.
May 31
Today was Friday and we didn't go to school.
Jackie came over and we went to Michele's. We were going to explore an old Monastery. We waded at S Creek and found a tunnel - we thought it was a secret entrance to the Monastery, but it wasn't.
We went up to the Monastery and explored the outside. It was real neat. I wish we could go inside. Roy M did and he said it was cool.
